Now that I have finally overcome my infection and had more than enough days of rest in Udon Thani, I would love to experience something entertaining again. Luckily, in the next few days there is something quite entertaining going on. Not here in Udon but in Ubon Ratchathani: The annual candle festival.
I don’t know how entertaining it will really get as the information regarding this festivity are a bit limited, but I am hoping for the best. This is why I will use tomorrow to make my way down to Ubon Rathchathani, which is around 400km south of where I am at the moment. The candle festival is happening over the course of two days on monday and tuesday and I am arriving one day earlier to perhaps even catch some festival preparations.
After the festival I plan to head back to Udon Thani in order to finally make my way to Lao. I don’t plan to stay in Udon again, I will simply use it for transit to a bus that gets me to Vientiane, the capital of Lao, which is almost around the corner of Udon Thani. After travelling Thailand for 7 weeks already, I really feel that I am looking forward to something different and new. This may sound weird as everything here is still new as well but thats how I feel. I have grown so used to the Thai language, people and way of life that most cities that I visit are not very different from each other anymore. I really want something entirely new and unexpected again and Lao will hopefully be exactly that.
So, for now I am looking forward to my last stop in Thailand, Ubon Ratchathani and the first traditional festival that I get to experience here. It might give the whole Thai time another spin, as I imagine these festivals to be full of history, tradition and typical Thai things. And if I would get to take a few good images I wouldnt be too sad either =).
I will keep you posted on the festival over the course of the next days. Stay tuned.
Yours
