Gordon and I made it Bangkok and are more or less shocked how different the weather is even though its only one hour by airplane. After 7 days of clear sky, sun and heat we were welcomed in BKK by black clouds and heavy rain. Instead of staying in the hotel room and enjoying the pleasures of the Thai TV offers, we decided to use the few days we have before Gordon heads home and I head to Vietnam.
We visited the Muay Thai Boxing Event at the MBK center, shipped down the Chao Praya and visited the Lumphini Park. But the most interesting things happened on our way back to the hotel. Many streets were flooded due to the nonstopping rain in the past days and the people, being confronted with all this water, are a pleasure to observe.
I placed myself on the opposite site of an extremely flooded street to see how the people react to this flooded driveway and how they go about passing it. It was fun to watch as the reactions were pretty much the same regardless of gender or ethnicity. Most people stopped and took 30 seconds to a minute to consider their options. They could have simply walked back 50 meters or so and cross the street there but that did not seem to be an option. So, after a bit of contemplating all of them decided to get their shoes wet and cross it. Here is a little compilation of my obversations:
