I really would have liked to write about my trip to the old part of Sukhothai today, but I don’t feel like it at all. I am in a pretty bad mood at the moment since the past days haven’t been very cool.
Firstly I am very disappointed about not being able to find Dorm Rooms in the smaller cities here. I like travelling alone, but not being alone. Dorm Rooms are the best way to mingle and connect with other travellers, and I always thought that Asia would be the Hostel paradise. It doesnt seem like that really, at least rating from my Thailand experiences. Other than in Bangkok I was not able to find Dorm Rooms at all. Only Guesthouses or Hotels. And I am really not concerned about the prices as these are ridiculous even for single rooms with free wifi etc. It can get really lonely when staying in one of these guesthouses, especially during this time of the year where there are not too many other travellers in the smaller places.
Secondly I really had a good bit of bad luck over the course of the last days. Yesterday my Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM started acting up. After one or two shots the camera would display a “Err 01″ message, that usually happens when the contacts of camera or lens are dirty. But its not that, unfortunately. It seems to be an internal problem in the lens, which causes the aperture to get stuck. Its shitty, because I really need this lens and therefore I will need to get it fixed. Would this have happened back home, I would have known where to go, but over here I have no idea. After contacting Canon I now know that I can either go back to Bangkok, which I will definitely not, or to Chiang Mai, about 5 hours north of Sukhothai. They have a service center there and I decided to got there tomorrow.
Thirdly I lost my Mp3 Player today. I don’t know whether I lost it somewhere or whether it got stolen in the hotel, but it doesnt matter really. The music was a big help for the long bus and train rides and also its very hard to find electronics here. I did not manage to get a new player here in Sukhothai, but since Chiang Mai is the second biggest city in Thailand, I hope to get a replacement there.
Probably I will show you some images of Sukhothai at a different moment. But honestly, you are not missing anything, Sukhothai was kind of disappointing as well, which really fits my mood these days. I hope it gets better.
Yours
Crazy Ivory
