In order to prepare the trip and estimate how long I will be able to travel I needed to set a maximum budget that I can spend before returning home. I have saved money for a long time, and so I decided that my maximum budget will be € 5000,–.
From what I have read, I should be able to survive quite a bit on that money. Judging from different travellers websites and online resources, I am calculating on an average of € 25,–/day. It seems that the south of Thailand is a good bit more expensive than the north, so I might have to pay less than that in one region and more in another region.

Other neighbouring countries seem to be cheaper than that, especially Cambodia and Laos which I am also planning to visit. I will try to document my spendings as soon as I start travelling, in order to give a hint to other travellers.
Also, I will try to earn money with my photography on the go in order to stretch the journey. Through stock image licenses as well as through news stories. Travelling self sufficient would be the best that can happen but I am aware of that being quite hard. However I will try my best to make it work.
All the best,
yours
